Teacher leads
Model the thinking.
The teacher introduces the skill, demonstrates a strategy, and checks that students are ready to apply it.
ChalkTalk moves a class from explicit teacher modeling to collaborative sense-making and then to adaptive individual practice - all within the regular school day.

Teacher leads
The teacher introduces the skill, demonstrates a strategy, and checks that students are ready to apply it.

Students collaborate
Pairs and small groups explain, compare, and revise their approaches while the teacher listens for understanding.

Each student practices
Adaptive practice meets students at their current skill level and gives teachers a clearer view of what comes next.
01 · I do + we do
Teachers lead from ChalkTalk lesson slides, using walkthrough examples, instructional cues, and built-in moments to check understanding before students move on.

02 · You do together
Students first work independently, creating space for productive struggle and ensuring that every learner engages with the problem before peer discussion begins. This sequence prevents the quickest response from short-circuiting others’ reasoning. Students then compare approaches and refine their thinking before a teacher-facilitated whole-class discussion. This progression reflects ChalkTalk’s belief that every student is capable of rigorous work as a reader, writer, and mathematics learner.
03 · You do alone
Students move into standards-aligned digital practice tailored to their current skill level. Teachers continue to see activity and progress without interrupting the flow of individual work.
The progression matters
Students practice independently after they have seen the skill modeled and talked through their thinking.
